Our brief was to create a private home, for a developer and his wife, that attained the most value from their site close to downtown Mount Maunganui. In this case, maximising 360 degree views to ocean, harbour and hills was paramount.

The site is on a ridge between the harbour and the ocean, and pohutukawa-clad Mount Drury. It’s an urban location with cafes and beach life nearby. It is quite possibly the highest house in Mount Maunganui.

Unique features include a four-storey (12m high) open central core with a glass lift and glass roof. A ‘floating’ steel and dark stained oak timber stair and floor with a Euroglass balustrade.

The interior is fresh white Gib board with crisp negative details to windows, custom lacquered kitchen, oak floors stained dark and high spec sound and TV systems. The exterior is Linea weatherboards, green tinted glass, aluminium composite cladding and white acrylic plaster.

The house is effectively a personal mini tower, which is fun and inspiring to live in and achieves fabulous visibility - at the top level you can see right through the building from harbour deck to ocean deck!

Location: 18 Rita Street, Mount Maunganui, Tauranga Region, Bay of Plenty, New ZealandWT-logo
