“Good people, great design and easy to work with. We felt Will really listened to Deby and her way of living. ” Grant & Deby Sowter This three-storey home is located in a quiet tree-lined street in central Mount Maunganui. The site originally had an old bach on it and is not large but actually has two road frontages, which have no daylighting restrictive planes. The aim was to provide a home for a couple with an active community life and a haven for creativity and visiting family and friends. A variety of generous spaces were created where none seemed possible on such a small site. Special features included tall doors for natural light, travertine marble floor to interior and decks, negative detail to windows and door trim, integrated media systems, exposed concrete floors, timber and steel stairs, white plaster exterior with metallic silver aluminium trim and louvres and Aluclad composite cladding. A strong and simple shape for the three-storey section is complimented by the more playful bedrooms suspended over the driveway. The house is like a private Hilton with its drive-through from Te Ngaio Rd to Ngarata Avenue.
