Features
- Very large upper deck with sheltered courtyard to allow views through the living area to the beach
- Main bedroom opens to courtyard with living room & beach views beyond. By this method the main bedroom has sea views without taking space from the living areas. As with all narrow sites the living & bedroom areas could not both fit across the front of the house
Products
Cladding: Plaster over light-weight concrete with a timber frame
Joinery: Stacking sliders 2.3 metres high
Roofing: Low-pitched hipped corrugated steel roof - appears flat but is a more economical form of construction
Balustrades: A combination of plaster & glass in aluminium channel
Flooring: Concrete unispan slab (upper floor)
Located one street back from the waterfront, this home is elevated on a half storey stone plinth to gain panoramic views to both the ocean and the hills. The striking cantilevered deck surrounds the upper living space and connects to a sheltered court space.
The Ground house has expansive views and awareness of the sea, even though it is not beachfront, due to the raised plinth and large carefully placed windows.
Location: 207 Seaview Road, Whangamata, The Coromandel, New Zealand
