The owners are two sisters who asked us to design separate holiday homes on the same harbourfront site.  Often the extended families will all be together at one time, so we have provided flow between the two while also ensuring each can provide privacy and security when needed.

The format we have suggested is two side-by-side timber framed townhouses with an intriguing central connecting courtyard.  This was chosen over a 'one above the other' approach partly to give everyone an easy connection to the ground and to the beach across the quiet lane.  The families have been coming here for years and wanted to keep the simple bach-on-the ground feel, rather than an apartment.

The relatively narrow long site has meant splitting the two buildings apart with a wedge shape open between.  Light and afternoon sun is brought into the left hand townhouse by the glazing in the courtyard. This is another main reason the building is divided in two.  Privacy and sharing are both successfully achieved to create a wonderful space for friends and family to enjoy.
